Eugene Farrell

Eugene Farrell

With 30 years’ experience in the UK healthcare arena (both public and private), Eugene provides thought leadership for AXA Health and is our Mental Health Consultancy Lead. Media writer, blogger and tweeter, and a key figure in Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) industry. He regularly provides health and wellbeing consultancy and training services to major employers around the world, including stress, resilience, work life balance, policy development, crisis management and business continuity. Away from work Eugene volunteers as an instructor, coach and instructor trainer for the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) and has conducted thousands of dives including very deep technical diving expeditions.

Evelyn Wallace

Evelyn Wallace

Evelyn, a registered general nurse, is Clinical Manager of AXA Health’s Cancer Care team, where she is responsible for ensuring excellent customer service and continuing development of the team. Evelyn began her nursing career in 1979, qualifying as an RGN working in gynaecology, going on to train as a midwife in 1980 and then gaining comprehensive clinical experience through working in various disciplines in the NHS. She has also gained a wide breadth of experience in case management over 25 years of work in the health insurance sector. Evelyn’s experience in cancer care was recognised by AXA Health when she joined in 2007 to help establish and develop the new Cancer Care team. She was appointed as Clinical Manager in 2010 and continues to ensure the team have up to date clinical knowledge to deliver excellent customer service.

Jan VIckery

Jan Vickery

A chartered physiotherapist and ergonomist, Jan is Head of Clinical Services for AXA Health, where she leads its musculoskeletal and psychological services. She sits on the ethics committee of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine and is a past member of the board of directors of the Council for Work and Health. Jan graduated with a BSc in physiotherapy from the University of Cape Town in 1993 and worked in South Africa for a short while before relocating to Michigan in the USA where she began her first work in occupational rehabilitation. She subsequently moved to the UK where she completed an MSc in health ergonomics at the Robens Centre for Health Ergonomics at the University of Surrey in 2000. Jan has extensive experience of the management of musculoskeletal health and has experience across a wide variety of employment settings, including aviation, financial services, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, retail and the NHS. Her understanding of musculoskeletal pathology and expertise in ergonomics give her a powerful insight into effectively managing work-related musculoskeletal issues.

Dr. Mark Winwood

Mark Winwood

Dr Mark Winwood, AXA Health’s Consultant Psychologist, is a leading psychologist with many years of clinical and research experience. Mark has previously served as AXA Health’s Clinical Lead for Mental Health Services, supporting the delivery of evidence based psychological care across our wellbeing and medical services. He holds associate fellowship and chartership with the British Psychological Society and is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council. He is also a chartered scientist. Prior to joining AXA Health, Mark worked as senior psychologist in the NHS, and in addition to his other commitments, now also works in clinical practice in London.

Andrew Walsh

Dr Joshua Harwood

Josh is a chartered clinical psychologist specialising in working with children and families. Clinical Director of Harwood Child Psychology, he is currently leading a nationwide child and young person autism project for the NHS, which aims to train clinicians in the current best practice for working with young people with autism. Josh is also lead psychologist on the development of a new child and young person pathway for families seeking mental health support through AXA Health.

In the NHS and in his private practice, Josh helps young people to overcome difficulties such as anxiety, depression and behavioural issues. He is also involved in helping to manage family stress and breakdown, undertaking complex whole family assessments in his role as an independent expert witness for the family courts.

Josh has previously led a research team at King’s College London, developing and evaluating evidence-based interventions for young people and parents, and was a lecturer in developmental psychology at University College London.

Ashley is a registered pharmacist and has been with Health at Hand for several years. She also works in local community pharmacies which not only keeps her work varied, but also informed and up to date with medicines availability and over-the-counter products.

Debbie has been a qualified nurse for over forty years and during this time has worked in many different areas of nursing obtaining the knowledge and skills that support her role within the Health at Hand team. Debbie has worked for AXA healthcare for seven years and enjoys working alongside her teammates supporting the AXA clients in any way she can. She enjoys running, reading and socialising with her family and friends.

Emma Cronin

Specialism: Nurse/Midwife

Emma Cronin is a registered nurse and midwife in AXA Health's Health at Hand team. Prior to joining us, Emma worked in the NHS for over 30 years, accumulating a considerable breadth of knowledge across the fields of nursing and widwifery. She lists her particular areas of specialism and interests as gynaecology, sexual health, midwifery and pregnancy care, paediatric care and mental health. Emma is a mother to 3 young adults, and her interests outside work include providing medical, practical and emotional support to groups run by various church and homeless organisations.

Gemma is an experienced registered pharmacist who joined the Health at Hand team back in 2017. Gemma is passionate about empowering members to understand their medications and improve their health and wellbeing. She enjoys talking with our members and offering practical medication support and information. Prior to joining AXA Health Gemma has worked in community pharmacy and also in primary care as a manager. Here at AXA health she enjoys working as part of skilled team to support our members with medication information.

Glenys Harris

Glenys Harris

Specialism: Nurse

Glenys is a registered nurse who has worked for the past 36 years in the NHS. Since qualifying at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead she has worked in a variety of settings starting on surgical wards specialising in breast, vascular and urological surgery. From there she moved into A&E where she loved the excitement of not knowing what was coming through the door next, delivering babies one minute and dealing with major trauma the next. After moving to NHS Direct when it was in its infancy, she then worked in a busy hospital outpatients department alongside consultants who specialised in vascular and plastic surgery and breast reconstruction. She is now enjoying the new challenge working at AXA and being part of the amazing team that are Health at Hand.

Helen is a Registered Nurse with almost 40 years’ experience. The primary focus of those years has been under the umbrella of long term conditions with particular interest in multiple sclerosis, spinal injury, rheumatological conditions & lymphoedema. Having worked as a Clinician with NHS 111 she is familiar with telephone consultation and is now really enjoying her new role with the AXA Health at Hand team offering medical information and supporting the Members in any way she possibly can. When not working Helen is busy looking after her family and their 2 Golden Retrievers Hollie & Ivy. Living near the coast and countryside she enjoys long leisurely walks with them. She has a passion for music of many genres & would dance to anything!

Hema is a registered pharmacist and a long-standing member our Health at Hand team. Here she uses her professional expertise and passion for the subject to great effect, helping members and their families understand their medication and its effects and ensuring they get maximum benefit from it; and responding to medicine-related enquiries through our Ask the Expert service. Prior to joining AXA Health, Hema worked in hospital, retail and industry environments, and her roles have included training and accrediting hospital dispensers and working as a manager and locum in retail She continues to work as a locum pharmacist in retail in order to maintain her practice.

Jackie Hall

Jackie Hall

Specialism: Nurse/Midwife

A registered nurse and midwife with over 30 years’ experience within the health service, Jackie leads the Health at Hand and Proactive Health teams as Clinical Manager. Jackie believes in empowering people to take charge of their own health needs and medical journey with evidence-based information and support, tailored to each individual's specific needs and situation. She gains particular pleasure from her role when she or one of her team really makes a difference to someone by taking the time to listen and understand their health concern and providing the answers they need to help alleviate their worry and anxiety. Outside work Jackie has a busy family life and is a practicing yoga teacher. She enjoys being active and is often accompanied by her dog, Odi who reminds her to stay present in the moment and smile.

Maria Yiangou

Since qualifying with a Masters in Pharmacy in 2009, Maria gained experience in the community pharmacy and medicines information sectors before joining our Health at Hand team of pharmacists. Here she provides members and other service users with medicines related information on a wide variety of topics. Other aspects of the role that are of particular interest to Maria include the provision of longer term support to customers with certain chronic medical conditions; supporting members post-surgery with related medication needs; and undertaking member wellbeing calls.

Jo Poolman

Jo Poolman

Specialism: Nurse

Jo is a registered nurse with over forty years of experience. With a background in emergency and community nursing, more recently she has specialised in school and occupational health. As manager of the Health at Hand team, Jo enjoys ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the service and maintaining the high quality of support we provide for AXA Health members and their families. She has a special interest in supporting our most vulnerable customers and those in times of crisis. In her spare time she enjoys swimming and attending the gym, spending time with her ever-growing family, and creative writing.

Jo Stevens

Jo Stevens

Specialism: Nurse

Jo trained in the Royal Air Force to become part of the Princess Mary’s RAF Nursing Service on completion. She immediately embarked on a rotational programme gaining experience in a variety of surgical and medical environments. On leaving the RAF Jo took some time out to travel in Australia and on returning to the UK she began working in an Orthopaedic Treatment Centre where she enjoyed several different roles within preassessment, theatres, day surgery and recovery. When the pandemic started Jo was redeployed to an intensive care unit and worked there until joining AXA’s Health at Hand team in March of this year.

Lindsay Mulley

Specialism: Nurse and lymphoedema therapist

Lindsay studied Adult Nursing at Canterbury Christchurch University and has worked in a variety of clinical environments including surgical wards, theatres and the community. She has 17 years of nursing experience working for the NHS and joined the AXA Health at Hand team 4 years ago. Lindsay really enjoys the variety of her role which includes answering a wide range of health information queries and providing support to our members and their families. Lindsay has a special interest in Lymphoedema and recently qualified as a certified lymphoedema therapist. In her spare time she enjoys days out with her family and is a keen runner.

Lane is a registered general nurse and has been qualified for 17 years. Lane has experience in hospital, community and hospice settings and she brings this wealth of experience and knowledge to AXA Health's Health at Hand team, where she helps provide medical information and support, and sometimes just someone to talk to, to anyone that needs it, at any time of the day or night.

Mena has been a registered nurse for over 25 years and, together with a wealth of experience, brings a huge amount of warmth and compassion to her role as a nurse advisor in our Health at Hand team. Mena's journey as a nurse started in Romania where she trained. She subsequently worked for the NHS as an oncology-haematology nurse, before eventually joining AXA Health. Here she gains a great deal of satisfaction from helping our members with their wellbeing concerns and providing the support they need at any time of the night and day.

Pedro is a registered nurse with a BSc (Honours) in Nursing and a keen interest in the fields of orthopaedics and gastroenterology. He's been part of AXA Health's round the clock Health at Hand medical information and support service for the past 3 years and gains a huge amount of satisfaction from his role, which includes answering general health queries, assisting with locating and navigating health systems or simply offering a listening ear to those in need. In his spare time Pedro is a photographer, video gamer and shower-singer.

Qualifications: BSc Sports and Exercise Science (specialised in Health), Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Fitness Instructor (Level 2) and Exercise Referral (Level 3)

Alex holds a BSc degree in Sports and Exercise Science. Alex has a passion for improving health and wellbeing and places a particular focus on mental health. He joined Proactive Health in 2015 as a Physiologist delivering health assessments, seminars and health coaching, with the aim of helping others achieve better health, preventing ill health and encouraging positive, sustainable behaviour change. Alex has worked with various clients helping to shape their wellbeing programmes and achieve their wellbeing needs/goals.He is a qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and regularly delivers Mental Health First Aid sessions to spread awareness of mental health and how best to support others.

Anna Fountain

Anna joined AXA Health as a Junior Physiologist in January 2019 and delivers onsite health assessments. Prior to this she had recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with a First-Class Honours degree in BSc Sport and Exercise Sciences. Following on from her degree Anna wanted to apply her passion for health and wellbeing into health promotion and supporting individuals to make sustainable behaviour changes. She uses her keen interest in nutrition and knowledge from her degree to aid this. Anna is also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.

Anthony holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise and a MSc in Sport and Exercise Nutrition. He has been working for AXA Health for almost a year, having previously worked at a gym helping to create individual exercise and nutrition plans. Anthony believes that finding exercise and (healthy) meals that you enjoy help in keeping you on track and living a healthy lifestyle.

Ben has over 8 years experience in the Health and Wellbeing Industry, and also holds a diploma in Exercise Referral and a First aid and Mental Health First Aid certification.

Ceitanna is a UK Registered Associate Nutritionist and Health & Wellbeing Programme Manager for AXA Health. She holds a BSc in Exercise Nutrition & Health and is a member of the UKVRN regulated by the Association for Nutrition, with a Masters in Applied Human Nutrition. Ceitanna has been working in the Health and Wellbeing industry for eight years and enjoys being able to share her passion for health and fitness; helping others to lead healthier, happier and more energised lives through the work she delivers as part of AXA Health’s Proactive Health team.

Dan is a Senior Physiologist with AXA Health, and joined the Proactive Health team in early 2017. Dan has 10 years of experience working in health and wellbeing and draws upon a breadth of different experiences. Dan works to support individuals in their wellbeing journey through helping to reflect on and understand their own sense of purpose and meaning, and to consider new perspectives.

Dan has been a physiologist within AXA Health’s Proactive Health Team since January 2018. He has been working in the Health and Wellbeing industry for 4 years, and holds BSc in Sport and Exercise Science. Dan has a true passion for health promotion using knowledge and expertise gained during his degree and throughout the 4 years spent as a Physiologist. Dan is a keen sportsman who takes great interest in understanding the role of leading a healthy lifestyle to maximise quality of life, and optimising sporting performance.

David Martin

Specialism: Health and Wellbeing Programme Manager
Qualifications: BSc Sport and Exercise Science

David is a Programme Manager for AXA Health, working closely with a range of clients from different industries to ensure their wellbeing programme delivers maximum value. David completed a Sport & Exercise Science degree from Loughborough University with the main research areas of health and physiology. This included a sport science placement in professional sport which focused on sport performance and recovery. Upon finishing his degree, he moved away from sport performance and into health and wellbeing, working as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist in association with two private hospitals in London, specialising in cardiac, cancer and pre & post-natal populations before moving to AXA Health.

Elliot holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Sport and Exercise Science and a PGCE in Post-16 education from Sheffield Hallam University. After teaching A-Level Sport and Exercise Scinece at college, Elliot began working in health coaching in 2016 and is now responsible for the training, quality and development of coaching at AXA Health.

Emma Mudge

"Emma Mudge is a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society, having studied a BSc in Applied Psychology and a PGCert in Advanced Psychological Wellbeing.
Emma currently provides support packages for large corporates to help employees and managers optimise their mental health and support others.
To date Emma has provided therapeutic and coaching interventions for individuals and groups over the last twelve years to manage ill health and improve mental wellbeing. Emma has worked within the third sector and NHS, is a trained Supervisor and prior to working in AXA Health was a Clinical Lead within a busy IAPT (Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies) NHS Service. Her responsibilities included multi agency working, promotion, management of therapists and practitioners, front line risk assessments and training.
Emma is passionate about self-compassion, the mind-body connection and self-development. Emma enjoys regular mindfulness practice, walking, being outdoors, reading and crafting."

Finlay

Finlay joined AXA as a Junior Physiologist in June 2018 after graduating from the University of Bath with a BSc (Hons) in Sports and Exercise Science. Finlay is an ex-gymnast that has had experience working within an elite sporting environment at National level. Finlay is a qualified Mental Health First Aider, has a published paper in the Psychology of Sport and Exercise and is passionate about continuing to drive and promote Health and Wellbeing at AXA Health.

Gabbie Avola

Qualifications: BSc Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation & MSc Clinical Exercise and Physiology

Gabriella has completed a BSc in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, with an MSc degree in Clinical Exercise and Physiology, this where she learnt how to perform ECG’s, Cardiac tests and Respiratory test’s. She has completed a level 2 Gym Instructor course, level 2 Dry needling, and a Kinesiology Taping course. Gabriella’s interests are providing advice for MSK related problems and the recovery process, weight loss through different areas of exercises and general health and well-being advice.

George is a Health and Wellbeing Programme Manager, who has worked for AXA Health since January 2017. George holds a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science, a MSc in Applied Exercise Physiology, as well as First Aid and Mental Health First Aid certificates. Prior to AXA Health, George worked for 6 years in a customer service role and now applies those skills to an industry he is passionate about. As a Programme Manager, George supports businesses to structure and progress their health and wellbeing offerings to employees.

Georgina holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and an MSc in Human Nutrition, specialising in nutrition for exercise and performance. Georgina is a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) through the Association for Nutrition and a qualified fitness instructor with a strong passion in helping people make sustainable lifestyle changes to positively impact health and wellbeing. In her professional career at AXA Health, Georgina works as a Programme Lead Physiologist, delivering and implementing wellbeing strategies designed to help people improve their health.

Hannah Wardley

Specialism: Junior Physiologist
Qualifications: BSc Sport and Exercise Science, MSc Human Nutrition, Associate Registered Nutritionist (ANutr) and Fitness Instructor

Hannah holds a BSc degree in Sport and Exercise Science as well as an MSc in Exercise Physiology from Loughbrough University. She also has a Level 3 Sports Massage qualification. She believes that exercise is for all, no matter what level or intensity it is completed at, as it brings not just physical but also mental benefits. She regularly puts this into practice through encouraging those around her to get active. Hannah’s philosophy is that ‘the only limitations in life are the ones we set ourselves’.

Qualifications: BSc Sports and Exercise Science & MSc Strength Conditioning

Jemelle holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise science and a MSc Strength and Conditioning. Before working for AXA Health as a physiologist, Jemelle gained experience in the health and leisure industry as well as in elite sport. He has been at AXA since December 2017, being heavily involved in the company's health coaching programme. Jemelle believes everyone should have the opportunity to improve and manage their own health.

Jermaine Izukanne

Qualifications: BSc Sports and Exercise Science

Jermaine earned a BSc in Sport and Exercise science before joining AXA Health in 2018 as a junior physiologist. He has been heavily involved in the delivery of onsite health assessments; as well as helping individuals reduce their risk of Type-2 diabetes within the Diabetes Prevention Programme. Jermaine believes that everyone should be health conscious and can be achieved by educating and supporting people on how to make better decisions in regards to their health and wellbeing.

Lauren holds a BSc in Physiology, an MSc in Cardiovascular Health & Rehabilitation, and is a qualified Personal Trainer and Mental Health First aider. Lauren has been delivering onsite health assessments since joining AXA Health in 2018, and believes that leading a healthy balanced lifestyle is key to being your best self, and everyone is capable of making positive health changes when given the right support.

Louise McKee

Louise holds a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science and works as a Physiologist for AXA Health's Proactive Health. Louise delivers onsite health assessments, telephone wellbeing sessions and is part of the health coaching programme. Louise is passionate about reducing the risk of ill health and believes the key to happiness is finding the right balance that promote a healthy behaviours and a sustainable lifetyle.

Luke holds a BSc (Hons) in Sports and Exercise Science, an MSc in Strength Conditioning and is also a qualified Personal Trainer. With previous expericence in Elite Sport and working as Personal Trainer for 5 years Luke is extremely passionate about health and fitness. Luke joined AXA Health in 2018 and since then has been using our onsite health assessments to help educate and empower people to make effective, lasting changes to both their behaviour and lifestyle.

Nicola Baxter

Qualifications: BA Education Studies and Early Years, PGDip Counselling and Psychotherpay Practices.

Nicola holds both a BA (Hons) in Education Studies and Early Years, and a PGDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Nicola is also a certified Life Coach, and is a trained Mental Health First Aider. Nicola joined AXA Health in September 2020, and delivers psychological coaching for the Healthy Minds Pathway. Prior to working at AXA Health, Nicola worked within boththe private and public sector, delivering a range of therapies to clients presenting with a range of adverse experiences. Nicola is also a trained reiki practitioner, who is passionate about the mind-body connection, and mental health and wellbeing.

Nicole holds both a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and an MSc in Sport and Exercise Physiology. She is a qualified Personal Trainer and has gained experience in this from working in gyms prior to being part of the AXA Health team. Nicole has encouraged a wide range of people to make positive changes to their lifestyle to help improve both their physical and mental health. Alongside fitness, mental health is a key interest of Nicole's. She aims to help individuals maintain that positive mindset through all aspects of life.

Raj Kundhi

Qualifications: BSc Nutrition, Food and Health & Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr)

Raj has been a Physiologist within Proactive Health since December 2017. Prior to working for AXA Health, Raj attained a First-Class BSc Honours degree in Nutrition, Food and Health and gained the status of a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) through the Association for Nutrition. Raj has previous experience working in weight management services across North Yorkshire, specialising in behaviour change and nutrition education. While working for AXA Health, Raj has focused on the health coaching in the Digital Diabetes Prevention Programme and has delivered health assessments to clients across the Northern region. Raj’s background is in the science of nutrition, the effect foods have on our bodies and utilising behaviour change techniques to help individuals be the best they can be.

Qualifications: MSc Exercise Physiology, Diploma in Sport and Exercise Nutrition & Personal Trainer

Rhys holds a BSc in Sports Science, an MSc in Exercise Physiology, and a qualified Personal Trainer and Sports Nutritionist. Over the 2 years Rhys has worked with AXA Health, he has focused on health coaching on the Digital Diabetes Prevention Programme as well as delivering health assessments and seminars. Rhys has also become a qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and is regularly delivering courses to spread awareness of mental health. Rhys believes that with the right tools and knowledge individuals can become empowered to take ownership of their health, and make sustainable changes to optimise their life.

Rita Makri

Rita Makri

Specialism: Dietitian
Qualifications: BSc degree (level 5A, Hons) in Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics

Rita holds a BSc degree (level 5A, Hons) in Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics from the International Hellenic University. By the end of the 4-year studies, completed a 6-month placement at internationally renowned, Animus Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre. After the completion of the placement, Rita was offered a position as Head of Dietetics department at Animus-Kyanous Stavros, a private hospital that operates seven departments, including neurosurgical, urological, ICU, internal medicine and general and orthopaedic surgery. After more than two and a half years, Rita moved to London where she acquired the title of Registered Dietitian (HCPC) and worked in various settings within the NHS, including St Margaret's Community Hospital, eight different GP practices participating in Diabetic Clinics and General Dietetic Clinics and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (UCLA). Rita is passionate about providing education to the general population as a preventative and coaching effectively people who experience health problems.

Sam holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and an MSc in Exercise Physiology from Loughborough University. He has a keen interest in physical activity and health, trying to help those around him to be more active and improve their health and wellbeing. Sam also has a passion for a variety of sport and is always eager to hear about someone's sport and their passion too.

Sarah Kemp

Qualifications: BSc Sport Science and Personal Training & MSc Physical Activity, Nutrition and Health Promotion & Qualified PT & Exercise Referral Specialist & Level 1-3 Cheerleading Coach

Sarah holds a BSc in Sports Science and Personal Training, an MSc in Physical Activity, Nutrition and Health Promotion, is a qualified Personal Trainer and Exercise Referral Instructor and also holds levels 1-3 in cheerleading coaching. Before coming to AXA, Sarah worked as a sports coach alongside working in a gym so is passionate about fitness. Since working within AXA Health, Sarah has developed a passion for women's health issues, particularly the menopause and is always keen to empower others to improve their health, in whatever way is best for them. Sarah would say that finding a healthy work/life balance is key to living a happy, fulfilled life.

Tom joined the proactive health team at the beginning of 2018. Tom holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Exercise and Sport Science and MSc in Sport and Health Science from the University of Exeter. While studying, Tom gained valuable experience working in elite sport within the nutrition department at Exeter City FC and The Cornish Pirates RFC. Tom believes its important to enjoy an active lifestyle, have a nutritious balanced diet and maintain a positive attitude. Toms Top Tip: balance in life is the essential piece in the jigsaw to sustainability.

Tom holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and MSc degree in Sport and Exercise Physiology. Tom is also a qualified Sports Nutritionist and Mental Health First Aider. Before moving into health and wellbeing Tom has worked within elite sport and the public sector and he has now been with AXA for 3 years. Tom believes the key to health and wellbeing is ensuring enjoyment in what you are doing and continuously doing the small every day actions/habits which are ultimately, the most meaningful.
