Healthcare in the UK faces a number of challenges including funding, workforce issues and serving an ageing population with growing complex and chronic conditions. Dr John Burke, Chief Medical Officer, AXA Health and Sophie Bonnel, Public Affairs Lead at AXA UK discuss how the new government could influence the provision of healthcare in the UK.

The speakers
Dr John Burke
Chief Medical Officer, AXA Health
Dr Burke is responsible for medical policy and strategy, leading a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacist and auditors to provide expert medical advice and take action to prevent avoidable harms to customers. His focus is on evidence-based medicine, value-based commissioning, service design, supply chain management and regulatory oversight.
After qualifying from Oxford University, Dr Burke worked in the NHS as a Medical Doctor for five years before spending a further 18 years as a GP before joining AXA Health in 2018.
Sophie Bonnell
Corporate Affairs Lead, AXA UK
Sophie leads Corporate Affairs for AXA Health, which includes media relations, reputation management and public affairs. She has worked at AXA for seven years, including in the UK Public Affairs team and in the UK&I CEO Office. Before joining AXA she worked for a Public Affairs consultancy supporting a range of clients primarily in the justice, payments and charity sectors.
