Making healthcare better together

We have always worked together with our colleagues in the NHS and wider healthcare community, and that’s something we’re still firmly focused on as AXA’s UK health and wellbeing specialists. We work closely with all our providers to improve the quality and consistency of care for our members, as well as ensuring that private healthcare remains sustainable for the future.

"Good healthcare focuses on meeting the patient’s needs – for me, and for all of us at AXA Health, that means putting our members at the heart of all we do. I'm passionate about working with providers of healthcare services who share our vision of making healthcare better – ensuring we all work together to deliver good quality care, in the right setting, with the right people, at the right time, for all our members."

Sarah Taylor - Head of Specialist and Practitioner Relations.

Working towards a healthier future for all

We’re proud to have motivated colleagues who put their energy to use helping our community – running dozens of events to support our chosen charities throughout the year.

We take our environmental stewardship seriously too – from installing solar panels to keeping beehives on site.

The wider AXA Group focuses firmly on the future, committing €250m to  700+ research projects since 2007 through the AXA Research fund

Helping our people find their healthy

Our focus on health and wellbeing starts with making sure our own people have all the support they need to be their best selves.

From resilience training to running groups, we’re here to cheer on all our colleagues on their own route to health and wellbeing. We’re also an accredited menopause friendly employer. AXA Health was included as an example of best practice in the All Party Parliamentary Group on Menopause report, published in 2022.

How we’re tackling climate change

As part of our mission to help people live better lives, we’re fully committed to the global effort to limit climate change. We’ve set ourselves ambitious targets. We’re campaigning to create a better society. We’re funding research to inform scientific decision-making. And, most importantly, we’re acting now.

Making the right kind of difference for 80 years

We were founded in 1940 by doctors and hospitals working together, and we’re still shaped by clinicians today.

Here are just a few of the things we’re proudest of:

year 2023 logo

We want our plans to be relevant to our customers’ ever-changing needs

That’s why we’ve launched the AXA Health Plan, designed to equip you for a changing world: buildable, adaptable, personal. It will empower customers to take control of their own and their family’s healthcare, no matter what their circumstances or individual needs.

Year 2022

We want to put people in control of their health. That’s why we created the all-new AXA Health app

It’s designed to help corporates business employees take small, incremental steps to improve their lifestyles and become the best they can be – fit, well and fired-up to stay healthy, at work and every day.

Getting through COVID-19 together

We were proud to offer support to our colleagues in the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We launched our Clinical Support Centre, so our members could get the specialist remote consultations they needed despite lockdown restrictions.

2015 image

We launched our own online GP service

Our members can speak to a private GP by video or phone, from anywhere in the world, day or night.

From a choice of appointments with GPs or Advanced Nurse Practitioners for advice, prescriptions, tests or eligible referrals, AXA Doctor at Hand takes care of things seamlessly.

2014

We created the Health Tech & You Awards

Through the Health Tech & You Awards we discovered, invested in and promoted the most ground-breaking technology in healthcare - empowering people to take control of their health and wellbeing.

2009

We introduced our Heart and Cancer Nurses

We know how important it is to have someone to lean on in difficult times.

Our cancer nurses – all experienced cancer clinicians – support members being treated for cancer and their families. They offer ongoing support, reassurance, and a listening ear.

2007

The launch of the AXA Research Fund and ICAS became part of AXA PPP healthcare

AXA created the AXA Research Fund to support scientific research that benefits all of society.

Our acquisition of occupational health and stress specialists ICAS gave us the expertise to work with organisations to improve the wellbeing of their people.

1999

We joined the AXA Group

AXA bought PPP's owner, Guardian Royal Exchange – making us part of the world’s largest insurance group, serving 107 million clients worldwide.

With this might backing us up, we were able to fund research and services that enable our customers to strive for better health and wellbeing.

1997 image

We gave our members access to clear, up-to-date health information and support, day and night

The 24/7 health support line allows our members to speak to one of our team of experienced health professionals.

Our friendly counsellors, nurses, midwives and pharmacists can talk through any issues, put minds at ease, and guide our members through any treatment they might need.*

1973

We started funding medical research

We created a charity, The Eynsham Trust, to support charitable hospitals and new medical research.

1940

We were founded by doctors and hospitals working together

We’re even older than the NHS – we started out as the Association for Hospital Services, aiming to help everyday people, on average incomes, access expert medical care fast. And more than 80 years later, we’re still helping people access the medical care they need.
